Christine McArthur was born at Kirkintilloch near Glasgow in 1953 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1971 to 1976. After graduating she completed a further diploma and won a travelling scholarship to Paris. She was a part-time lecturer at Glasgow School of Art from 1986 to 1992.
She was elected a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute (R.G.I) in 1990 and in 1995, a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (R.S.W). In 1997 the John Lewis Partnership commissioned her to undertake four large panels for their new store in Glasgow and more recently a second commission for the newly refurbished Peter Jones in London which will be unveiled in 2002.
Awards to Christine include The Scottish Arts Council Award, Glasgow Society of Women Artists Trust Fund Award, Lauder Award and the NS Macfarlane Award. Her work can be found in many private and public including The Scottish Arts Council, University of Strathclyde, The Lord Chancellor, Ross, Harper and Murphy, United Distillers plc., Amerada Hess Corporation, Craig Capital Corporation, Argyll Group plc., Edinburgh Tapestry Company, Arthur Anderson & Co., William Teacher & Sons Ltd., Clydesdale Bank plc., and the Royal Bank of Scotland plc.
